About Utopia Reimagined

In the tradition of Ayn Rand and C. S. Lewis, Utopia Reimagined is a powerful, thought-provoking journey that asks the big questions and challenges the economic, political, and religious status quo.

The oppressive life of an eighteenth-century French peasant is not enough for young, ambitious Alexandre Brunet. Aided by a charismatic priest and inspired by the rebellion of the common man in America, he risks everything in a tragic failed attempt to achieve the dream of freedom for people and free markets—a perfect world.

Forced to flee with his sister, Pauline, they stumble through a mysterious cave into a paradise beyond their previous understanding. At first glance, the city of Santosa is everything they could have imagined. There is no poverty or exploitation, and everyone is rewarded according to their contribution to society. But life in Santosa comes with a price that eventually drives the pair back into the unknown. When they emerge, they find themselves in yet another place unlike any they’ve ever seen—modern-day New York City. In the gleaming metropolis of Western capitalism and democracy, they find wealth, power, and a system in which everyone can succeed.

It’s the perfect world. Or is it?
And where does God fit in?

Utopia Reimagined is a rare breed of book that effortlessly combines discussion of the biggest ideas about economics, politics, and faith with a compulsively readable story. It’s a must-read for those who like to ask life’s most important questions.”

—Jim Spurlino, author of Losing Our Elections and Business Bullseye

Additional Praise
For Utopia Reimagined

“Earlier in my life, I overheard my pastor, Dr. Adrian Rogers, make a statement that stopped me in my tracks. He said that socialism and capitalism are just two different ways to pursue materialism, and that both fall short of God’s best for us. The Bible teaches that man is a spirit and what we most need and want is not found in materialism but in spiritual life through the Lord Jesus Christ. Utopia Reimagined took me on that journey in a well-informed and powerful way. Rather than simply learning economic theory, I lived it and gained deeper insight into all that is going on in our country and world.”

—Bobby Lewis, executive vice president, Love Worth Finding Ministries

Utopia Reimagined: An Allegory of Capital and Conscience imaginatively challenges readers to think through the nature of our contemporary culture and to realize the connection between faith and the ‘secular’ realms of economics, business, and politics. Reminding one of both C. S. Lewis and Ayn Rand (two names not often put together), this book is both profound and a pleasure to read.”

—Dr. Robert Stewart, professor of philosophy and theology, Greer-Heard Chair of Faith and Culture—New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary
